[Sunny day]
“Ah, it’s so hot.”
“What are we going to eat?”
“I have not appetite.”
“How about the shaved ice?”
“Sounds good!”
The sun shines so brightly in this dull weather. I can even feel the water vapour from the road, the sweat came out from the tiny pores and try to breathe from the air.
When I walk into the restaurant, the cold wind from air-conditioner instantly lows down the high pressure around us. I sit down and look around the restaurant, the menu is hanging on the wall. Looking at the dazzling menu, I don’t know what to eat for a while.
When I saw the smoothies’ part of the menu, I thought of the word “fate”, the fate of eating ice. Although I am a girl, I think it’s okay to eat ice for a few days a month.
The restaurant was opened in the year 2018, it is a quite new place for people to eat Chinese traditional dessert in Puchong. Therefore, competitors are always there.
Four young men established this restaurant without any hesitate, the biggest reason for that is they like to eat Chinese traditional dessert. Me as well.
I look at the waitress who holding a bowl of ice under the ice blender. The ice piled up slowly, and the higher the stack. He poured a colourful liquid on it, and the liquid penetrated the ice to create a beautiful colour. The fruits stay quietly around the ice, just as it never leaves the ice.
She puts down the bowl gently in front of me. I pick up the spoon briskly, added a spoonful of it in my mouth, and the ice is dancing on my tongue, sweet and sour feeling. It is the taste of love.
Fruits pair with the ice is like drinking a cup of succulent juice that combines smooth and rich texture.
I think the feeling of love is to eat a bowl of fruit shaved ice.
[Rainy day]
“Pitter-patter.”
The raindrops fall through the umbrella as a buffer and it falls to the ground, while the wind whispered wildly. What should I eat in this cold weather?
The signboard of “Yee Kee Tong Shui” has become glitter in this heavy rain. The feet unconsciously walk into it. It looks desolate, and several people sit in their seats to sip the hot dessert.
I look at the various desserts in the container that kept temperature. The owner of Yee Kee Tong Shui, Wynn described that this would enable the customers to have the hot dessert all the time.
In this silent night, the owner’s figure seems lonely. He slowly opens his mouth and talks about the story of this restaurant.
In the beginning, four of them just an immature man who had a dream want to open a dessert restaurant. However, the reality was not as simple as a dream. They have gone through insufficient funds, employee problems, cooking issues, and outside competitors.
They will always figure out a strategy to solve the current issues. To demonstrate, they have the dessert that could not sell out every day. Therefore, they create a strategy to sell the dessert for only RM 2 after 7.00 p.m. Other than that, they provide various sets which are lower than RM 10, which is affordable for everyone.
At this time, the waitress walks slowly to me with a bowl of “Bubur Cha Cha” and sweet barley and ginkgo nut dessert. I look at the two desserts excitedly. I interrupt the owner softly, “Can I eat first?” He looks at me in surprise, “Why not.”
I picked up the spoon briskly and slowly put it into the hot dessert as deep as I can. Therefore, I can have full of spoon when I drink it. Only drink in this way can satisfy my picky mouth.
I blew the dessert in tender, and the water vapour dispersed into the cloud in the air. The moment when the “Bubur Cha Cha” entered my mouth, my whole body was warmed up. And I can’t stop myself to drink the dessert.
The owner looks at me smiling and I look at him in doubt. He said it was because the dessert seems delicious when I ate it. Young people nowadays are not interested in traditional dessert. They are falling in love with “Internet celebrity” dessert.
However, it will not let him give up this restaurant. He shared that having competitors is not a terrible thing, they will let them improve themselves in different ways. The emergence of “Internet celebrity” dessert also gives customers a variety of options.
I listen quietly when he is talking about his life, his experiences, his dessert. And a doubt occurs silently from my heart, “What does Chinese traditional dessert mean to you?” He looks at me meaningfully and said, “a love that will not disappear.”
I nodded my head and continue to drink my dessert.
Every restaurant has its own story, and everyone who walks into the restaurant will carry their own story. Perhaps, when every different person drinks a bowl of the same dessert will have the same feeling.
So, what is your favourite dessert?
