Jenny, a single mother lives with her only child, Lee. As Jenny’s memory begins to fade, she could no longer recognize her son, Lee. Her memory remains at a period when Lee is still a teenager. One day, she returns home excitedly to find an unfamiliar man sitting on the sofa. She was confused as to who he is. The man has a mournful look on his face. Little did she know that the man is actually her son who has grown up. Lee could not bear to see his mother in such a state, he decided to bring her to seek medical help. The doctor claimed that his mother’s condition is not optimistic. Despite his grief, Lee remains at his mother’s side, even when she does not remember him. He continues to care for her just like how she cared for him since young.
Q: Where are the shot places?
A: We rented an apartment which is as warm as a home in KL. Besides, we also went to the train station and school for shooting different scenes.
Q: Does the sequence one happen in the past?
A: No, sequence one also happens at the present. This is the world in mom’s mind.
Q: When the mother looks for her son at the train station, the passengers are actors or strangers?
A: They are strangers. We want to shot the natural reaction of the people when they are being asked.
Q: Why does the mother talk to the chair?
A: This is what the son saw when he was at home. Mother lives in her own world and lives in the past. In her world, her son is only 14-years-old.
Q: How does the song “you are my sunshine” work in the story?
A: This song is the common memory between mother and son. The son once sang for his mother when he was young. So, when he sang this song, his mother can remember this man is her son. And the lyric also reveals that what his mother meant to him.
Q: Why do you use “Forget Me Not” as the story name?
A: In the story, the mother forgets his adult son so “forget me not” is the words that the son wants to tell his mother. Although Alzheimer is the gap between mother and son, she won’t forget him because of a mother’s love toward her son.
Review
“The transition between different shot is natural and consistent, it looks nice. The first sequence creates a nice phenomenon to let the audience guess about what will happen after. BGM let the film looks emotional and it is suitable. The overall of this film looks good.
